Presentation Skills Training:
Presentations and Public Speaking 101

If you are good at public speaking then anchoring would be one of the most interesting jobs that you will like to do. Anchoring brings out the best in you where you learn to communicate effectively and build the connection with the audience as well as hold the center stage. It is through you that the audience gets introduced to the entire program.

Mainly as an anchor your job is to introduce the entire concept as an over view as well as in detail to the audience and carry them through the entire presentation or the program. If for example you are making a presentation on behalf of your organization, then you will talk about your organization's history, the vision, past performance, future goals and the main purpose of the presentation all in a comprehensive way.

To illustrate the role of anchor further let us take the same example of presentation. The presentation has three different parts and let us refer to each part as A, B and C.

The A, B & C serve as cue for you to speak up. While A prompts you to start talking about the past, when you come to B you come to the present and start speaking up and at C you begin with future and complete the entire presentation.

There is no difference in the presentation slides while you are anchoring. The slide show will continue as normally with past performance being shown in left aligned slides and the right side aligned slides would be used to talk of the future. The present can be aligned in the center. You as the anchor can switch to both sides while covering the presentation.

Anchors have got to be very lively and cheerful in their presentation where in they are able to hold the attention of the audience and the audience should feel good listening to the anchor. Voice modulation is very important and there should be no monotony in the speech. Anchor has got to emote while speaking as well as bring in some lighter comments and moments to make the audience feel light and easy.

It is not that every one of us is born as an anchor. Some of us have to invest our efforts into cultivating the required art and skill. But then as we keep doing various shows we start improving and getting better. It is lot easier and becomes natural when you start enjoying anchoring.

As an anchor you hold the attention of the audience and by the sheer power of your presentation skills you can inspire the audience.
