The Importance of Effective Presentation Skills Training

Presentation Skills! How important are our presentation skills in our careers? The answer, surprisingly, is that presentation skills are crucial to our success!

Here’s why: Let’s suppose that there are 10 people standing in front of a room, and I tell you that one of those 10 people is an expert in Internet Marketing and the other 10 are imposters. How would you determine which is the real expert, and which are the imposters? The answer, of course, is that you’d ask them questions -  and based upon the answers to the questions, based on their presentation skills, you could easily eliminate the imposters.

Now, let’s suppose there are ten people in front of the room, and all of them are experts at Internet Marketing, and you’re going to hire one of them. They all look alike and they all have wonderful credentials and impressive client lists. How are you going to make your decision. The answer, once again, is that you’d ask them questions, and based upon their answers, based upon their presentation skills, you’d make your decision.

And you might have made the wrong decision. You might have hired the person, not who was the most qualified, but the one who had the best presentation skills! It might have already happened to you – or to someone you know. The wrong person got the job! The wrong person got the promotion!

The wrong person made the sale! The person who had the best presentation skills - not the person with the best product -got the business! The person with the best presentation skills, not the best person for the job,  got the promotion!

It doesn’t matter how good a person is at his or her job! If that person does not have the presentation skills to explain an idea, a project, a recommendation, a service or a product to others, then nothing will ever happen to that idea, project, recommendation, service or product.

That’s why presentation skills are often described as the most desirable quality in any employee. 

And there are ways to improve your presentation skills. There are training programs, books, DVD’s, videotapes on presentation skills that will certainly help you. to improve your presentation skills. 

Unfortunately, improving your presentation skills is something that you can’t just do by yourself, because just practicing your presentation skills won’t help.

You’ve probably heard the phrase that “practice makes perfect”. Unfortunately, that statement won’t apply to presentation skills, because you’ll probably end up just practicing your mistakes! No, when it comes to presentation skills, practice does not make perfect! Only perfect practice makes perfect!
