Presentation Training Workshop:
Why Planning is Key for a Successful Presentation
The importance of good planning and being well prepared is crucial for a presentation to be successful. Failing on that can bring disaster to even the most basic presentation. A good example of how planning play a key role for an effective presentation would be to consider a trainer planning a training course.
To make sure that the session is successful the trainer will need to plan the following:
1) Be physically fit
Have plenty of sleep, avoid alcohol or heavy meal. It is very easy to be exhausted due to the high level of adrenalin that a presentation requires. Having a good night of sleep is therefore essential.
2) Arrive early
Make sure you have plenty of time and that you do not need to rush to arrive to your destination. This will help you in being less stressed.
3) Meet the delegates
Take the opportunity for an informal talk with the delegates by arriving early. This will make everybody relax.
4) Practice hearing the sound of your voice
Practice hearing your voice in the same training room. Heavy curtains may require you to speak louder.
5) Practice moving around the room
Moving around the room will make you feel more comfortable and you will get to know the room better.
6) Check your appearance
Clothing, hair, tie and shirt all need to be perfect. The expectation is that you wear something smarter than the delegates. Dressing less smart can immediately send the wrong signal to the delegates.
7) Check your notes
Make sure your notes/slides are all in the correct order.
8) Check Handouts are present
Make sure the handouts/ Training notes for the delegates are present and correctly displayed for every delegate.
Planning is crucial for any presentation or meetings to be successful. This example can be applied to many different situations. Every meeting or presentation should ideally be planned in a similar way to make sure that everything runs smoothly.
