Preparing Your Lectern - Easy Steps For Successful Presentation Training

A lectern is a not just simple furniture. It is an accessory to the presentation. It is made to enhance and direct focus on the presenter and his position on stage. It is, therefore, important to make sure the lectern is not too high up where the audience can no longer get a good view of the presenter. Knowing in advance whether a presenter is of average height or if he needs special arrangement on stage would be a smart idea. Adjustment on lectern placement prior to the presentation itself would be most advantageous for both the host and the presenter.

The most common placement of the lectern is at center stage but if there is going to be an audiovisual presentation on either right or left of the stage, the lectern would have to be on the opposite side where it will not be in the way of anyone's view. When the lectern has been properly placed, a thorough check on dirt and splinters should be made for a safe and professional presentation. A dust cover will work just as well on lecterns as they do on appliances and equipment and they keep the lectern ready for any presentation.

Should you need to make the stage even more impressive, you need not worry about dipping into your pocket too much with a simple flower arrangement. Secure your flower arrangement at the bottom of the lectern where it will be most appreciated by the audience. Preparing the lectern for presentation does not stop at the physical location and state of the lectern.

Accessories such as the light and clock needs to be checked to make sure they work just fine. The light needs to be adjusted at an angle where it helps the presenter in being efficient and will not hinder him in anyway. The clock should be set at the proper time. Audiovisual controls like laptop audio-video connections, house and slide controls, pointer and lavaliere microphone should also be made accessible to the presenter. A glass of water is also as important as all other items mentioned.

When everything seems to be in place, check the presenter's view from behind the lectern. See if the audiovisual presentation is just as visible to him as it is to the audience. If the audiovisual presentation cannot be viewed properly, provide a monitor at the lectern to aid the presenter.

Safety is always in the priority list in any presentation so make sure no cords are out of place and tape down wires. The area around the lectern and presentation area should be free of stray wires. Finally, check the microphone and sound levels. Make sure that volume is loud enough and that audio is intelligible. Follow these steps carefully and you are on your way to a successful presentation.
